Cabrera has pitched in 14 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball so far this year for the Mets and he is 2-1 with 8 saves, a 1.69 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Cabrera last pitched in the majors back in 2010 with the Red Sox. He has pitched in 132 games (0 starts) in his first 7 years in the majors and he is 8-7 with 1 save, a 5.24 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP. Cabrera has always had good stuff as he has whiffed 193 batters in his first 175 1/3 innings in the majors. It will be interesting to see if the Mets give Cabrera a shot to show what he can do at some point in 2012.

33-year old lefty starting pitcher Johan Santana missed all of last season due to left shoulder surgery. They weren’t expecting him to be ready for the start of the 2012 season. Not only was he ready to start the 2012 season on time, but he is looking sharp so far. Santana has started 6 games for the Mets so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He has only given up 25 hits in his first 31 innings and he has whiffed 34 batters as he has been razor sharp. Santana will be on a strict pitch limit in an effort to keep him healthy the whole 2012 season.

The Mets have placed 28-year old righty starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the 15-day disabled list due to a right elbow surgery. Rumors are circulating that he’s going to need Tommy John Surgery, which would knock him out for the rest of the 2012 season and the early part of 2013. Pelfrey has started 3 games for the Mets so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 2.29 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He has now pitched in 153 games (149 starts) in his first seven years with the Mets and he is 50-54 with 1 save, a 4.36 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. 25-year old righty Chris Schwinden will be called up to replace Pelfrey in the starting rotation. He has pitched in 4 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Mets so far this year and he is 2-2 with a 2.05 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. His first major league experience came with the Mets last year in which he started 4 games and he was 0-2 with a 4.71 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. Schwinden came into this season as the Mets’ #24 prospect according to Baseball America, so they have high hopes for him.
