29-year old lefty reliever Mike O’Connor has really been pitching pretty good ball in AAA for the Mets this year. He has pitched in 33 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 0-1 with 2 saves, a 2.82 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. O’Connor has whiffed 37 batters in 38 1/3 innings so he has been looking sharp. If the need arises for a lefty reliever and O’Connor continues to pitch well look for him to get a call to the majors.

23-year old righty starting pitcher Brad Holt came into this season as the Mets’ #5 prospect according to Baseball America. It is very hard to imagine what the experts at Baseball America saw in this guy. He has pitched in 12 games (11 starts) in A+AA-ball so far this season and he is 2-6 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP. He has given up 53 hits and he has walked 29 batters already in only 39 innings showing just how awful he has been. Holt has now pitched in 46 games (45 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 14-16 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. Holt better get his head on straight if he ever wants to pitch in the show one day.

32-year old righty swinging 1B/3B Mike Hessman keeps plugging away in AAA for another chance at the show. He last played in the majors in 2008. He has played in 77 games in his major league career and he is 35 of 168 (.208 avg, .752 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 13 homers and 27 RBIs. Hessman also has whiffed 56 times in his major league career as he has shown some holes in his swing. He has played in 52 games in AAA-ball for the Mets this season and he is 59 of 199 (.296 avg, 1.024 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 18 homers and 55 RBIs. Hessman has now played in 1,608 games over 15 years in the minors and he is 1,344 of 5,801 (.232 avg, .775 OPS) and he has 837 runs scored, 329 homers and 949 RBIs. It will be interesting to see if the Mets give Hessman a chance if they have a need at 1B or 3B if he keeps hitting the ball like he is right now. He could be the next Jack Cust.
