The Mets have acquired outfielder Angel Pagan from the Cubs for outfielder Corey Coles and pitcher Ryan Meyers. The 26-year old switch-hitting Pagan played in 71 games last season for the Cubs and he was 39 for 148 (.264 avg, .745 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 4 homers, 21 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Pagan has now played in 148 games in his major league career and he is 81 for 318 (.255 avg, .721 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 9 homers, 39 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Pagan will battle for a bench spot in Spring Training for the Mets.

The Mets have decided to pick up the $7.5 million dollar option for 2008 in Moises Alou’s contract. It wasn’t a hard decision after the season Alou turned in. Alou played in 87 games for the Mets last season and he was 112 for 328 (.341 avg, .916 OPS) with 51 runs scored, 13 homers and 49 RBIs. If the Mets can afford to rest him once in a while and he stays healthy…look out in 2008.

Carlos Delgado has hit better in the 2nd half of the season than he did in the first half so they need to get him back healthy. Since the All-Star Break, Delgado has played in 46 games and he is 48 for 170 (.282 avg, .839 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 8 homers and 31 RBIs. For the season, Delgado has played in 129 games and he is hitting .255 (.774 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 22 homers and 80 RBIs.Â

David Wright is smokin’ hot in the 2nd half of the season with the bat for the New York Mets

David Wright had a good first half with the bat but he’s absolutely on fire with the bat right now. Wright has played in 38 games in the 2nd half of the season for the Mets and he is 47 for 134 (.351 avg, 1.019 OPS) with 35 runs scored, 6 homers and 29 RBIs. The Mets need him to keep swinging the bat like he is right now so they can hold off the Braves and Phillies in the N.L. East. Wright has now played in 127 games this season and he is 144 for 466 (.309 avg, .921 OPS) with 84 runs scored, 22 homers, 80 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.

The New York Mets offense has been a three man show this season

Jose Reyes gets everything started as the leadoff hitter for the Mets. He is hitting .307 with 61 runs scored, 4 homers, 35 RBIs and 46 stolen bases. Reyes really rattles the opposing pitcher with his speed and that benefits the other hitters on the Mets. David Wright got off to a rough start this season but he has caught fire lately and his numbers look pretty good for the season. He is hitting .292 with 49 runs scored, 16 homers, 51 RBIs and 18 stolen bases this season. Carlos Beltran is only hitting .264 this season but he has scored 49 runs, ripped 16 homers, driven in 55 runs and stolen 13 bases. Look for the “Big Three” to carry the Mets offense in the 2nd half of the season.
