27-year old starting 3B David Wright had a power outage in 2009. He played in 144 games in 2009 for the Mets and he was 164 of 535 (.307 avg, .837 OPS) with 88 runs scored, 10 homers, 72 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. This season though, Wright has his power stroke back. Wright has played in 106 games for the Mets this year and he is 118 of 399 (.296 avg, .873 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 17 homers, 77 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Wright getting his power back is one of the main reasons the Mets have played better than most experts thought they would.

Angel Pagan has been a lifesaver for the New York Mets in 2010

Carlos Beltran has just returned from the D.L. and he’s such a huge part of the Mets that they could have really missed him. But, 28-year old switch hitting Angel Pagan replaced him in CF while he was out of action and now he’s moving over to RF. Pagan has been a godsend for the Mets this year. He has played in 89 games for the Mets this year and he is 102 of 333 (.306 avg, .833 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 8 homers, 44 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Pagan is playing the best ball of his major league career as it appears that all he really needed was a chance to show what he could do and he’s rewarding the Mets for that opportunity.

27-year old 3B David Wright and 27-year old shortstop Jose Reyes will represent the Mets in the All-Star Game. Wright has played in 81 games so far this season for the Mets and he is 96 of 305 (.315 avg, .932 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 14 homers, 64 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Wright was elected to the team by the fans so he will be the starting 3B for the N.L. This is the fifth time Wright has been on the N.L. All-Star Team. Jose Reyes was picked as a injury replacement for Troy Tulowitzki. Reyes has played in 73 games for the Mets this season and he is 86 of 310 (.277 avg, .741 OPS) with 51 runs scored, 6 homers, 32 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. This will be Reyes’ 2nd All-Star Game of his career to date.

The New York Mets are getting solid production at catcher

34-year old Rod Barajas and 38-year old righty swinging Henry Blanco came to the Mets as free agents over the winter with the reputation of being solid defenders with some power but neither of them usually hit for a solid average. But, the pair of veterans are hitting much better than the Mets thought they would. Barajas has played in 54 games for the Mets so far this season and he is 47 of 186 (.253 avg, .763 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 11 homers and 30 RBIs. He comes up to the plate hacking as he has only walked 5 times this season but the Mets won’t care about his lack of discipline as long as he keeps hitting like he is right now. Blanco has played in 21 games for the Mets this year and he is 17 of 61 (.279 avg, .795 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 2 homers, 7 RBIs and 1 stolen base. If Barajas and Blanco keep producing like they are right now with a bat in their hands the Mets are going to be very, very happy with them.

Chris Carter is off to a good start for the New York Mets

27-year old lefty swinging outfielder Chris Carter would have came to the Mets last season if the Yankees hadn’t claimed him off waivers forcing the Red Sox to pull him back. He was part of the return the Mets were to get for Billy Wagner and he wound up being a player to be named later in the trade instead so that the Yankees couldn’t stop the trade. The Mets are happy with Carter who has been solid since they called him up last month. He has played in 21 games for the Mets this season and he is 9 of 32 (.281 avg, .886 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 2 homers and 11 RBIs. Carter has really given the Mets a offensive boost off the bench and they hope he keeps up the good work.
