32-year old righty swinging LF Jason Bay continues to be a bust for the Mets. He has played in 17 games so far in August and he is 16 for 66 (.242 avg, .739 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 3 homers, 7 RBIs and 1 stolen base. So Bay is showing some signs of life with the bat this month for the Mets. Bay has played in 97 games so far this year and he is 86 for 360 (.239 avg, .670 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 9 homers, 43 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Bay has now played in 192 games in his first two years with the Mets and he is 176 of 708 (.249 avg, .709 OPS) with 96 runs scored, 15 homers, 90 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. The Mets need Bay to live up to his paycheck at some time in the very near future as he has not been too good for them yet, despite being paid very well.

Jason Bay has been a waste so far for the New York Mets

32-year old righty swinging LF Jason Bay got big bucks from the Mets a couple of winters ago and he has been a lost cause due to injuries and ineffectiveness so far. Bay has played in 45 games for the Mets this year and he is 36 for 163 (.221 avg, .591 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 2 homers, 12 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Bay has now played in 140 games in his first two years with the Mets and he is 126 for 511 (.247 avg, .698 OPS) with 70 runs scored, 8 homers, 59 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Signing Bay looked good at the time the Mets did it, but hindsight is always 20/20 and it has been a utter disaster so far.

The New York Mets took 25-year old righty swinging 2B Brad Emaus in the Rule 5 Draft from the Blue Jays over the winter. Emaus then went to spring training and he not only won a roster spot but the starting job at 2B. He has had a rough go so far against major league pitching so far this year. He has played in 9 games for the Mets so far this year and he is 4 for 24 (.167 avg, .452 OPS) with 1 runs scored and 1 RBI. The Mets can’t afford to keep Emaus in the starting lineup unless he starts to hit better, and that’s the bottom line!

Carlos Beltran has had a lost 2010 season for the New York Mets

33-year old switch hitting CF Carlos Beltran had knee surgery against team wishes late in the winter which caused him to miss most of this year. He has played in 43 games for the Mets and he is 31 of 142 (.218 avg, .660 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 2 homers, 14 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Beltran just doesn’t look anything like the player he was in his first five years with the Mets. Beltran played in 677 games in his first five years with the Mets and he was 720 of 2,560 (.281 avg) with 469 runs scored, 127 homers, 466 RBIs and 94 stolen bases.

Luis Castillo doesn’t want to play for the New York Mets anymore

34-year old switch hitting 2B Luis Castillo said last week that there is no way he sees himself wearing a Mets’ uniform in 2010. That is probably quite allright for the Mets as Castillo looks like his career is nearing an end. Castillo has played in 66 games for the Mets this year and he is 49 of 204 (.240 avg, .617 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 0 homers, 15 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. In his four years with the Mets, Castillo has played in 345 games in which he is 328 of 1,187 (.276 avg, .696 OPS) with 180 runs scored, 5 homers, 103 RBIs and 54 stolen bases.
