32-year old righty swinging OF/1B Val Pascucci is still trying to make it in the big leagues. He has played in 66 games in AAA-ball for the Mets this year and he is 53 for 211 (.251 avg, .862 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 10 homers and 49 RBIs. Pascucci has now played in 1,276 games in 11 years in the minors and he is 1,183 of 4,332 (.273 avg, .886 OPS) with 769 runs scored, 223 homers, 809 RBIs and 74 stolen bases. His lone experience in the majors came way back in 2004 with the Montreal Expos. Pascucci played in 32 games with the Expos in 2004 and he was 11 for 62 (.177 avg, .588 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 2 homers, 6 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Maybe this will be the year that Pascucci gets back to the majors.

Jose Reyes continues to rip the ball for the New York Mets

28-year old shortstop Jose Reyes continues to rip the ball for the Mets. Reyes has played in 23 games in June so far and he is 37 for 104 (.356 avg, .951 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 2 homers, 15 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. He has now played in 75 games for the Mets so far this year and he is 113 of 331 (.341 avg, .899 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 3 homers, 32 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. It’s starting to look likely that the Mets might deal Reyes next month….and that’s a shame. Reyes is the big reason the Mets are sitting at .500 right now. No matter what they get back for Reyes, they eventually will end up in last place in the National League East.

Jonathon Niese has been pretty solid for the New York Mets this year

24-year old lefty starting pitcher Jonathon Niese has been solid for the Mets this year. In his first 4 starts this June, Niese is 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He has whiffed 22 batters while only walking 5 batters in 25 2/3 innings this June. Niese has now pitched in 15 games (all starts) for the Mets so far this year and he is 6-6 with a 3.70 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. Due to the injuries in the rotation, the Mets needed someone to step up and Niese has been that guy.

Jason Bay has been a waste so far for the New York Mets

32-year old righty swinging LF Jason Bay got big bucks from the Mets a couple of winters ago and he has been a lost cause due to injuries and ineffectiveness so far. Bay has played in 45 games for the Mets this year and he is 36 for 163 (.221 avg, .591 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 2 homers, 12 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Bay has now played in 140 games in his first two years with the Mets and he is 126 for 511 (.247 avg, .698 OPS) with 70 runs scored, 8 homers, 59 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Signing Bay looked good at the time the Mets did it, but hindsight is always 20/20 and it has been a utter disaster so far.
