The Mets have designated 30-year old lefty reliever/starter Pat Misch for the second time this year. Misch has pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Mets so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 10.29 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP. He has pitched in parts of six years in the majors in his career. Misch has pitched in 78 games (24 starts) in his major league career to date and he is 4-15 with a 4.80 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. If Misch clears waivers again, the Mets will probably send him back to the minors as long as he agrees to go.

UPDATE: (6/1/2011) - Pat Misch has accepted an outright assignment to AAA, so he will remain with the Mets.

27-year old switch-hitting shortstop Jose Reyes has been awesome for the Mets so far this year. Reyes has played in 49 games for the Mets so far this year and he is 68 for 213 (.319 avg, .831 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 1 homer, 16 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He has been especially hot so far this May. Reyes has played in 23 games for the Mets so far in May and he is 34 for 101 (.337 avg, .897 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 9 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. The hope here is that the Mets put it all together and get in the playoff hunt. If they don’t, then look for Reyes to be dealt by the trade deadline in July.

John Franco will also be loved by the fans of the New York Mets

Lefty reliever John Franco always will be loved by Mets’ fans. Even when he would come to Shea Stadium as an opposing player the fans always gave him a nice hand, and for good reason. Franco’s best year with the Mets came back in 1996 when he worked in 51 games (0 starts) in which he was 4-3 with 28 saves, a 1.83 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He pitched 14 years for the Mets working in 695 games (0 starts) in which he was 48-56 with 276 saves, a 3.10 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Franco is the Mets’ all-time leader in both games pitched (695) and saves (276). He is also tied for 6th in ERA with Dwight Gooden at 3.10. Franco saved at least 30 games in a season 5 times but he only made 1 All-Star team with the Mets.

Warren Spahn didn’t last long with the New York Mets

Lefty starting pitcher Warren Spahn didn’t last too long with the New York Mets. He only spent part of the 1965 season with the team before they released him during the year. Spahn pitched in 20 games (19 starts) for the Mets in 1965 and he was 4-12 with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He wasn’t out of work too long as the Giants quickly signed him when he became available. 1965 turned out to be the last year in Spahn’s Hall of Fame career. He has 363 career wins which have him ranked #6 in Major League history and 4 of those came with the Mets.

Francisco Rodriguez has been dominating so far this year for the New York Mets

29-year old righty closer Francisco Rodriguez has been awesome so far this year for the Mets. He has pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Mets so far this year and he is 1-0 with 14 saves, a 0.79 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. He has whiffed 23 batters in his first 22 2/3 innings this year while walking 12 batters. K-Rod has only given up runs in two games (1 run each) in his 22 games so far this year, which is amazing. Rodriguez now has 282 saves in his major league career and that places him 26th of all time and he’s not even 30 years old yet. The Mets will likely try to deal K-Rod if they fall out of contention, and if he keeps pitching like this….they would get a nice haul for him.
