29-year old righty swinging catcher Omir Santos and 32-year old righty swinging 1B Mike Hessman have rejected minor league assignments from the Mets, thus becoming free agents. Santos played in 27 games in AA+AAA-ball last season for the Mets and he was only 15 of 94 (.160 avg, .474 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs. Santos played well for the Mets in his only year with the big league club in 2009 when he played in 96 games and he was 73 of 281 (.260 avg, .688 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 7 homers and 40 RBIs. He’ll likely hook on with another team over the winter but the Mets won’t miss him too much.
Mike Hessman played in 32 games for the Mets last season and he was 7 of 55 (.127 avg, .516 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs. He also played in 65 games in Rookie+AAA-ball last season and he was 70 of 252 (.278 avg, .925 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 18 homers and 58 RBIs. The Mets won’t miss him either.
