The Mets have re-signed 38-year old reliever Elmer Dessens to a 1-year deal. Dessens pitched in 28 games (0 starts) last season for the Mets and he was 0-0 with a 3.31 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. He has now pitched in 388 games (140 starts) in his major league career and he is 48-62 with 5 saves, a 4.53 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. This was a good signing for the Mets as Dessens pitched well for them last year.

The Mets have signed 25-year old righty reliever Clint Everts to a minor league deal. Everts pitched in 44 games (0 starts) in A+AA+AAA ball last season and he was 8-1 with 6 saves, a 1.65 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has now pitched in 191 games (76 starts) in his seven seasons in the minors and he is 32-39 with 13 saves, a 3.98 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Everts was a favorite of Omar Minaya in his time with the Expos so this signing makes a lot of sense for the Mets.

He now played in 140 games in his major league career and he is 46 for 230 (.200 avg, .547 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 2 homers, 12 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Mets won’t lose any sleep over letting Green go.

UPDATE: The Mets have re-signed Green to a minor league deal. Nothing to get to excited about here.

The Mets selected 23-year old righty reliever/starter Carlos Monasterios in the Rule 5 Draft and then they traded him to the Dodgers for cash. Monasterios pitched in 37 games (8 starts) in A+AA ball last season and he was 5-6 with 2 saves, a 3.73 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. This was a good move as the Mets could always use some extra cash.

The Mets have signed 31-year old righty swinging 1B/3B Mike Hessman to a minor league deal. He played in 131 games in AAA-ball last season and he was 101 for 466 (.217 avg, .766 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 23 homers and 77 RBIs. Hessman did whiff an amazing 171 times last season as he is a all-or-nothing type of hitter. Hessman last played in the majors during the 2008 season with the Tigers. He has played in 77 games in four years in the majors and he is 35 for 168 (.208 avg, .752 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 13 homers and 27 RBIs. The Mets will likely stash Hessman in AAA and give him a shot in the majors if they suffer some injuries.
