The Mets have signed 32-year old lefty swinging SS/2B Alex Cora to a 1-year, $2 million dollar contract. Cora played in 75 games for the Red Sox last year and he was 41 for 152 (.270 avg, .720 OPS) with 14 runs scored and 9 RBIs. He has now played in 1,043 games in his major league career in which he is 688 for 2,805 (.245 avg, .661 OPS) with 303 runs scored, 34 homers, 242 RBIs and 33 stolen bases. Cora was signed because he’s a much better defensive infielder than Damion Easley is.

The Mets have signed 30-year old righty starting pitcher Tim Redding to a 1-year, $2.25 million dollar contract. Redding started 33 games for the Nationals last season and he was 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Redding has now pitched in 149 games (127 starts) in his major league career and he is 34-51 with a 4.92 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. This was a good move for the Mets as Redding will likely be slotted as the #4 starter on the Mets this season unless they pick up another pitcher that could bump him down to #5.
