The Mets have placed righty reliever Matt Wise on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness. Wise has pitched in 8 games for the Mets this season and he is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP. Wise will be replaced both on the roster and in the bullpen by righty Carlos Muniz who has been recalled from AAA ball. He has pitched in 3 games for the Mets this season and he has worked 4 innings allowing only 2 hits while whiffing 2 without giving up a run.

The Mets have placed Marlon Anderson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The Mets have recalled 22-year old righty swinging 1B/OF Nick Evans to replace Anderson on the roster. All he did in his major league debut was go 3 for 4 with 3 doubles, a run scored and 2 RBIs. He will likley play some LF and 1B while he’s up with the Mets. Evans has played in 45 AA games this season and he was 50 for 171 (.292 avg, .894 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 8 homers and 31 RBIs.

Billy Wagner has been awesome for the New York Mets this season

Closer Billy Wagner has been like a man on a mission this season as he has not allowed a run this season. He has pitched in 17 games (0 starts) for the Mets this season and he is 0-0 with 9 saves, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP. Wagner has whiffed 20 batters in only 18 innings this season which shows that he is still bringing the heat. If you want to beat the Mets you better be winning the game going into the 9th inning or you are done.

The New York Mets place Moises Alou on the D.L. again

Moises Alou just can’t stay healthy for the Mets and it’s a shame because he can still swing a mean stick. Alou has played in 14 games this season for the Mets and he is 16 for 47 (.340 avg, .756 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 7 RBIs. A strained left calf will cause Alou to miss the next 15 days. The Mets will recall catcher/1B Raul Casanova from the minors to replace Alou on the roster. Casanova has played in 12 games with the Mets this season and he is 13 for 46 (.283 avg, .731 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs. Endy Chavez & Marlon Anderson will replace Alou in left field and neither of them are playing very well this season. Chavez has played in 29 games this season and he is 8 for 51 (.157 avg, .394 OPS) with 7 runs scored. Anderson has played in 36 games for the Mets this season and he is 9 for 49 (.184 avg, .502 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 1 homer, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Mets will really miss Alou’s bat.

The Mets have signed 32-year old switch hitting infielder Abraham Nunez to a minor league contract. Nunez has played in 33 games in AAA this season for the Brewers and he was 22 for 105 (.210 avg, .535 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 8 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Nunez has played in 1,028 games in his major league career and he is 601 for 2,484 (.242 avg, .627 OPS) with 286 runs scored, 18 homers, 209 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. This signing was for depth in the organization.
