The Mets have lost 10 of their last 14 games and all of there last 7 games at home! The bad thing for the Mets is they are at home this weekend for the Marlins. So the Mets are now tied with the Phillies at 87-72 and they are 1 game behind the Padres for the Wild Card. You can’t blame Moises Alou for this mess as he is 42 for his last 104 (.404 avg, 1.051 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 4 homers and 16 RBIs. David Wright has also been outstanding in his last 27 games as he is 38 for 106 (.358 avg, 1.095 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 7 homers and 19 RBIs.

The Mets have designated Brian Lawrence for assignment and he deserves to go. He started 6 games this season for the Mets and he was 1-2 with a 6.83 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. He has worked 29 innings for the Mets and he allowed 43 hits, walked 13 batters and whiffed 18. Losing Lawrence for the rest of the season will be no loss for the Mets.

Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine are both rolling late in the season as they try to help the Mets with the National League East. The Mets are currently 83-67 which has them in first place in the National League East, 1.5 games ahead of the Phillies. The Mets are also 3 games better than the Padres who are leading the Wild Card Race in the National League. The Mets have lost 5 games in a row and they need their veteran starting pitchers to get them to the finish line. Martinez has looked pretty sharp in his first three starts of the season. He is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP so far this season. In 16 innings he has allowed 18 hits, walked 4 batters and whiffed 17. Lefty Tom Glavine has been hot in the 2nd half of the season as he is 6-0 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 12 starts. Glavine has been defying his age all season long as he is 13-6 with a 3.88 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP in 31 starts this season.

The New York Mets can see the finish line as they have won 8 of their last 10 games. The Mets are now 82-62 which has them 6 games ahead of the 2nd place Phillies. The Mets need to stay focused until they clinch and then they need to give some of their regulars a few days off to rest up for the playoffs.

Carlos Delgado has hit better in the 2nd half of the season than he did in the first half so they need to get him back healthy. Since the All-Star Break, Delgado has played in 46 games and he is 48 for 170 (.282 avg, .839 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 8 homers and 31 RBIs. For the season, Delgado has played in 129 games and he is hitting .255 (.774 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 22 homers and 80 RBIs.Â
