The Mets went 4-2 last week as they outscored their opponents 24-18 last week. The Mets pitching was really awesome as it made up for the offense not clicking on all cylinders. The Mets entered this week with a 32-17 record which had them in first place in the National League East, 4.5 games ahead of the Braves.

Fernando Martinez is off to a good start of his career for the Mets

18 year old lefty swinging outfielder Fernando Martinez is ranked as the Mets #2 prospect according to Baseball America. He is playing well in AA ball for the Mets so far this season. In his first 37 games, Martinez is 46 for 149 (.309, .781 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 2 homers, 12 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The fact that Martinez is hitting so well in AA ball at 18 years old probably will have him on the fast track to Flushing, New York.

Oliver Perez has been outstanding for the New York Mets this season

GM Omar Minaya flat out stole Oliver Perez from the Pirates last season. The Pirates had grown frustrated with Perez’ lack of control and they just gave up on him. Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson seems to have fixed Perez up as he’s been outstanding this season. In 8 starts this season, Perez is 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP so far. In 49.2 innings, he has allowed 38 hits, 6 homers, only 16 walks and he’s whiffed 48 batters. The Mets will win the N.L. East as long as Perez and John Maine keep pitching as well as they are right now.

Scott Schoeneweis is stinking it up for the New York Mets

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Scott Schoeneweis is pitching poorly because he’s been an awful pitcher his whole career in the majors. In 21 games this season, Schoeneweis is 0-0 with a 6.50 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP so far this season. In 18 innings, he has allowed 18 hits, 4 homers, walked 15 batters while only striking out 9. He should wake up in the morning everyday and thank God that he was born lefthanded!

The Mets had another outstanding week

The Mets went 5-2 last week as they scored 35 runs and allowed 35 runs.  The Mets hit the ball well but their pitching got blasted a couple of times, still it’s hard to complain with a 5-2 week. The Mets entered this week with a 28-15 record which had them in first place in the National League East, 2.5 games ahead of the Braves.
